Beaten Down By Nutritional Experts

According to my email in-box…

…I don’t know a flip about health.  I’m FED UP with all the smarty pants know-it-alls emotionally beating me with their “expertise” on the subject of food.  Yep, I’m a little guilty myself and I humbly lament my participation in the preaching chorus.  Even I feel pushed around by all the rules; new, old and mind  befuddling.

I Don’t Know Anything

MP900386416i don’t deny – nor am i apologetic of – my innate tendency towards hermit-ism.

Is that a word?

What I’ve learned, in my staggering inconsistent attempts to fill up this “blog” with interesting content, is that I am at my core, un-interesting.  No, really, I’m not being coyly self deprecating, and I’m not hinting to you to stroke my fizzled ego, I honestly don’t have a single shred of stimulating thought inside my head.

Never the less, here’s what I’ve learned in the past year – for what it’ s worth (which is really very little): Continue reading »

When I was in high school (that was a little while ago, but not like, a whole long time ago), we were supposed to eat five servings of vegetables a day, now, we need to chow down on nine servings.  Seriously nine?  That’s like 4 1/2 cups of veggies!

the recommendation isn’t evolving to mess with my meal plans

100 years ago produce contained 90% more minerals than they do today Continue reading »

This post is about how two adults, a 75 pound dog and a 3 pound iguana live a home-based life, in just 900 square feet.

Most of it spent in one little room

  • The bedroom is pretty lonely, until the sun goes down.
  • The living room/dining room get sporadic use during the day.
  • The kitchen is spacious and well inhabited during times of food preparation.
  • It’s the front “bedroom” that gets all the lovin’!

Tomatoes Don’t Grow In The Snow

local is not a social buzzword reserved for socialite moms who shop the farmers market as if it were an accessory.

this stuff matters

I’ve read about those suburbanites who, in one season, learn to grow enough food for themselves, their friends and, like, the whole town.  All on one acre of land.  I reject such stories as urban legend.  Mike and I can’t grow more than a novelty portion of vegetables, so 99% of what we eat comes from someone else.

Bone Broth Soup

Chicken soup really does cure the flu.  If the soup base is done right and ONLY if it is made with bone broth.

What makes bone broth soup so good?

  • It is a rich and very easily absorbable source of calciummagnesiumpotassium and other trace minerals…move over milk, you’ve got nothing on bone broth! Continue reading »

Healthy crackers are hard to find – almost all crackers are packed full of damaging oils (soy, corn, canola, safflower), simple carbs (white flour & sugar), chemical treated & bleached salt and even artificial preservatives.  They can also be expensive.   I have a solution.  I make my own.

This recipe is free from gluten, grain and sugar but it’s also packed full of flavor protein and minerals. Continue reading »
